If you've never had these sweet and savory biscuits, you don't know what you are missing. These biscuits are so easy to make and definitely something that is ideal for serving at nearly any meal. A simple drop biscuit is updated with a bit of extra sugar in the dough and a simple honey and melted butter topping for an update on the classic bread.

If you like making homemade bread for your family, then you will want to check out some of my other favorites. I often serve up these homemade everything bagels, a soft potato bread recipe, or even homemade crescent rolls. How do I Keep Biscuits From Drying Out?

No one wants a dry biscuit. The best way to keep the biscuits from drying out is to make sure you have the proper ratio of fats to dry ingredients. This recipe depends upon fresh chilled butter that will melt as the biscuit bakes making sure every bite is nice and moist, but also flavorful.

Another reason they may dry out is if they are cooked for too long. Make sure you have not overbaked them. This will take out the moisture from the biscuits and ruin the work you put into making them.

Once they are done baking, the other way to make sure they do not dry out is is to make sure they’re completely cooled before you wrap them up and store them in an airtight container. If your biscuits are stored properly, there will be no dry crumbs to deal with!

The addition of the honey butter before and after baking also adds to the moisture of the biscuit making it less likely to be dry and crumbly.

What Should I Serve Honey Butter Biscuits With?

What shouldn't you serve these honey biscuits with is a better question! They also go well with sausage gravy, a fried egg on top of your biscuit for breakfast, or just as you would serve any type of bread.

Serve these with just about any type of chicken dinner, especially fried chicken, or with steak, pork, or meatloaf. If you would serve a side of bread with the meal, it will only better with these biscuits.

Some of my favorite recipes to enjoy with these biscuits are the classic meatloaf, fried chicken, or even a piece of ham steak. You just can't go wrong with serving these at any meal!

What if I Don’t Have Buttermilk?

It is possible to make honey butter biscuits without buttermilk. You can substitute for regular milk or even a milk substitute if that is all that you have on hand. However, the tang of buttermilk really adds to the flavor and combines well with the sweetness from the honey.

To make your own homemade buttermilk, it's an easy method that works with the same results in this recipe. You can mix 1 tablespoon of either lemon juice or vinegar with 1 cup of milk. Let this sit for 5 minutes, then use it in the recipe as directed.

Can I Make These with Vegan Butter Instead?

In place of the butter in this recipe, feel free to substitute vegan butter. The only thing is that it will not taste as rich and fluffy. Vegan butter is great for baking recipes where you want a light texture or easy spreading so just keep that in mind when choosing your substitutions!

It will have a similar result as if you used margarine in place of the butter. Both work well, but the vegan butter options may melt faster when cutting into the flour mixture.

How Should I Store Homemade Biscuits?

Biscuits should be stored in an airtight container or plastic food storage bag. The less air to reach the biscuits the longer they will last and fresher they will be. If left on the counter without covering them, they will go stale within a few hours.

Make sure you allow the biscuits to completely cool before packaging to store. The heat can create condensation in a storage container which will give you a soggy and yucky biscuit when you go back to eat them later. This will also increase the risk of mold on the biscuits.

How Long Are Honey Butter Biscuits Good?

These do not have to be refrigerated but will last up to one week when refrigerated after cooling. If left in a container on the counter, they should be eaten within 2 to 3 days of baking.

You can also freeze leftovers after baking them. They can be frozen in an airtight container or freezer storage bag for up to three months after baking. This is a great option if you want to double the recipe and freeze some of it!
